After experiencing a variety of medical problems, I was
finally diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010. Initially, I felt overwhelmed
trying to figure out how to eat gluten free and how to avoid wheat, barley, and
rye. When I discovered blogs written by others with celiac disease, I didn’t
feel so alone anymore. Eventually I decided to chronicle my own gluten free
journey. Writing about my celiac disease has been a very therapeutic process
for me. It also provided an opportunity for me to share products, recipes, and
restaurants with my sister, who also has celiac disease. Despite us both living
across the country, keeping a blog allows me to easily share. I’m also pleased
to share what I’ve learned with others; awareness is the key for a quicker diagnosis,
the ability for those with celiac disease to live healthy lives, and for the
general public to understand that a gluten free diet is not just a fad.
Born and raised in Michigan, I moved to Texas with my military
husband, Justin. We visit Pure Michigan whenever we can, but also love to
explore Texas. We are self-proclaimed foodies who enjoy trying new restaurants,
going on weekend trips, and cooking together, although I’m usually his sous
chef. Justin and I also have a loving, yet active dog, named Iivana. She is
often the topic of many of our daily musings.
